By default, the first page you see when you open Chrome is the Google search box. The homepage is the page that opens when you click on the Home icon on Chrome. How to Change Your Homepage in Chrome
- You can customise Google Chrome to open any page for the homepage or start-up page. These two pages aren’t the same unless you set them to be. Your start-up page is the one that is displayed when you first launch Chrome on your device. Your homepage is the one you that you go to when you click Home.

Open Chrome and select the menu button located in the upper-right corner of the window.

To change your homepage in Chrome, click on thethree-dot icon in the top-right corner of a browser window. Then go to Settings> Appearance then enable the Show Home button option. Type yourdesired URL the text box that appears, then test if the new home page works.
- Open the Chrome browser.
- Click the three-dot icon in the top-right corner of your browser window.
- Then click Settings.
- Scroll down to Appearance.
- Turn on the toggle for Show Home button. Two radio buttons will appear below.
- Type the URL of your desired homepage. By default, this is set to http://www.google.com.
You can also change your homepage to be the startup page in Chrome. This will be the page that you see every time you open Chrome. To change your startup page, scroll down to the bottom of the settings page to the On startup section. Then click the radio button next to Open a specific page or set of pages.
Next, click Add a new page, enter a site URL, and click Add.
Note: You can add more than one page by repeating steps six to eight. When you open a new Chrome window, all the pages you added will load in different tabs.
After you change your homepage in Chrome, you can also change the new tab page, which is the page that you see when you open a new tab. However, you can’t set up a custom URL on a new tab from Chrome’s settings.
How to Change the New Tab Page
To change the new tab page in Chrome, you have to download an extension. You can find and install one from the Chrome Web Store. Once installed, make sure to Enable it and add your preferred URL.
Note: This guide uses the Custom New Tab URLextension, but there are lots of other extensions that offer you other optionsas well.
- Open Google Chrome.
- Go to the Custom New Tab URL page on the Chrome Web Store.
- Then click Add to Chrome.
- Next, click Add Extension. Once installed, you will see a prompt pointing you to the top right of your browser where the extension icon is located. It appears as a webpage tab with a gray asterisk inside.
- Click on the new icon and select Options.You will see this appear to the right of your address bar.
- Check the box for Enabled.
- Then type in a URL. Make sure to include http:// or https:// before the address.
- Finally, click Save to change your homepage in Chrome.
