You need to plug your headphones into the Focusrite and do all your monitoring there having set the 2i2 as the Output in Audition as well as input. You can then use the Direct Monitor switch on the Scarlett to enable you to monitor your recording inputs as well as hearing Audition's output when. For this article I will be using a Scarlett 2i2 to demonstrate the basics of recording into Audition, however, the below setup will be similar for all Focusrite interfaces. Upon opening Audition, navigate to the Adobe Audition menu Preferences Audio Hardware and open this. Ensure the Default Input and Default Output are set to Scarlett 2i2 USB (or your specific interface) so it looks like the below screenshot.
