That comes down to poor choice and qualification, did you
- ask for references, speak to other clients they work for

- Oversee the work and ask for the config to be documented
- Test the install against the scope of works you should have given them
Doesnt sound like it..
But specifically on the UTM situation
1. How many users and what bandwidth do you have, sizing the UTM hardware is a bit part art part science but if you have 100 users and 100Mbps connection and are running IPS you have different needs to 5 users on a DSL circuit
2. The UTM you have might have been installed with Sophos Firewall OS v15 and that had some serious gaps between the the older stable UTM SG v9.x software. For new installs I wouldnt go back to the SG v9.x software but stick with the new XG Sophos Firewall OS but get it done properly
If you give us some detail on users/speeds/requirements thats going to help
Doesnt matter what brand firewall you buy if you dont scope out what its meant to do and have it installed properly you will end up in the same position
