Sweet Styles
- The Rundown on Markdown Originally created in 2004 by John Gruber and Aaron Swartz, Markdown is a markup language designed to be lightweight and simple to read/write. It’s completely text-based and uses cleverly placed symbols to format words in bold, italics, underlined, etc.
- Text markup, and extends markdown in several ways to allow for quick linking to other artifacts in your project. Markdown was created to be easy to read, easy to write, and still readable in plain text format.
Discord is one of the most popular messaging and collaboration applications available. Popular among gamers and teenagers, Discord provides a snappy and well-designed interface that works well for communicating with friends. Similar to Slack, Discord provides limited Markdown support which is comparable to other applications in this category. Discord uses the ” Discord Markdown Text” format system to create Discord Bold Text, discord italics letters, and when you need to cross out one of your words or sentences. Checkdown is a plain text editor to HTML (markup language) conversion tool written in Perl that uses a plain discord formatting syntax highlighting.

Don't want to use markdown? You can slap a backslash in front of your statement, and it'll escape the markdown formatting. You'll see those asterisks as you'd like! Just keep in mind, it doesn't work in messages with edits or underscores.
Code Blocks
Discord also supports code blocks as well. You can make your own code blocks by wrapping your text in backticks (`)
You can also use three backticks (```) to create multiline code blocks, like this beautifully written haiku.
Syntax Highlighting
If you really want to spruce up your code blocks, you can denote a specific language for syntax highlighting, by typing the name of the language you want the code block to expect right after the first three backticks beginning your code block. An example...
There are many different languages in place of Markdown that Discord's syntax highlighting support. Each different language has its own approach to highlight-able syntax. In Markdown, you can see that here:

Discord text formatting
Since Discord doesn’t have integral formatting options, you can bold text using Markdown.
What is Markdown
According to Wikipedia “Markdown is a lightweight markup language with plain-text-formatting syntax, created in 2004 by John Gruber with Aaron Swartz. Markdown is often used to format readme files, for writing messages in online discussion forums, and to create rich text using a plain text editor.”
It is used on Discord, as well as on platforms like Reddit. Let’s see how it works in Discord.
